

A taste of Japan for your garden! Green Shell is a delicious and protein-packed treat, producing early crops of plump, velvety soya beans inside soft, fuzzy pods. The beans have a creamy, nutty flavour — perfect for snacking, stir-fries, or salads. Simply steam, boil, or grill them in the pod, then pop them out for the ultimate fresh taste!
From June onwards, once the pods feel full and firm with plump beans inside.
• Planting: Space plants 45cm apart in well-drained soil and full sun.
• Watering: Keep well watered, especially during flowering and pod formation.
• Support: Plants may need a little staking once pods start to fill.
• Feeding: Use a light fertiliser if growth slows — they don’t need much!
• Pick Young: Harvest while pods are still bright green for the best flavour.
• Protein Power: Edamame is packed with plant protein — great for healthy snacking!
• No Waste: The pods aren’t eaten, but they make excellent additions to compost once you’ve popped the beans.
