A true showstopper in the garden! Enorma lives up to its name, producing masses of long, straight pods that can reach an incredible 30–50cm in length. This early-maturing, easy-to-grow variety is packed with rich flavour and perfect for freezing — and with such heavy yields, you’ll definitely have plenty to store!
Harvest
From June onwards, before the beans inside start to swell for the sweetest, most tender pods.
Growing Instructions
Planting: Space 25cm apart in well-drained soil beside canes, trellis, or netting. Gently guide the stems upward as they grow, then let them trail back down once they reach the top.
Position: Choose a sunny, sheltered site for the best growth and pod development.
Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry weather — runner beans love moisture!
Feeding: Begin feeding every two weeks once the first pods appear (not before) to encourage continuous cropping.
Frost Protection: Protect young plants from late frosts using cloches or fleece.
Pollination: Plant Sweet Peas nearby to attract pollinators and boost yields.
Top Tips
Pick Regularly: Harvest often to keep pods tender and ensure a constant supply.
Freeze for Later: Blanch and freeze your surplus — these beans keep their flavour beautifully.
Encourage Growth: Mulch around the base to retain soil moisture and reduce weeds.
Companion Planting: Grow Nasturtiums close by to deter bean beetles and add a splash of colour.
