Greyhound Cabbage
A reliable old favourite that never disappoints! Greyhound is an early, compact cabbage variety that produces neat, pointed hearts packed with tender, juicy leaves and a mild, sweet flavour. Quick to mature and easy to grow, it’s perfect for smaller gardens or anyone looking for an early, space-saving crop. Delicious steamed, shredded in stir-fries, or used fresh in coleslaw!

Harvest
June to November – cut when heads are firm and well-formed for the best texture and flavour.

Growing Instructions

  • Spacing & Positioning: Plant 30–45cm apart in well-prepared soil, in full sun or partial shade.

  • Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry weather to prevent splitting.

  • Feeding: Apply a liquid fertiliser every two weeks to encourage strong, leafy growth.

  • Protection: Use fine netting to protect from cabbage white butterflies during summer.

Top Tips

  • Small-Space Star: Compact habit makes Greyhound perfect for raised beds or tighter garden spaces.

  • Early Harvest: Its quick growth means you can enjoy homegrown cabbages sooner than most varieties.

  • Crop Rotation: Avoid planting brassicas in the same spot year after year to reduce pest and disease risk.

  • Alternative Option: Try ‘Duncan’ cabbage for a similar shape but an even sweeter flavour.

  • Fresh is Best: Harvest in the morning for crisp, juicy leaves at their peak.
