Details

F1 Navona - Romanesco Cauliflower
A true showstopper in the veg patch! This Romanesco variety forms striking lime-green, spiral-shaped curds that look almost too beautiful to eat — but you’ll want to, because they’re packed with delicious, nutty flavour. With excellent uniformity and no messy bracts, it’s perfect for gardeners who love something a little different and full of taste.

Harvest
September to November.

Growing Instructions

  • Spacing: Plant 45–60cm apart to allow heads to form fully.

  • Soil: Prefers very fertile, firm soil. Before planting, dig in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost and rake in a general-purpose fertiliser (around 150g per sq m).

  • Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry spells.

  • Protection: In strong sun, fold outer leaves over the heads to prevent scorching. Protect from cabbage white butterflies with fine mesh netting.

Top Tips

  • Soil Prep: Firm soil is key for tight, well-formed heads — gently tread the ground before planting.

  • Even Growth: Regular watering and feeding produce the best-shaped curds and prevent premature flowering.

  • Harvest Hint: Cut when heads are compact and firm; they won’t all mature at once, so check plants regularly.

  • Kitchen Inspiration: Steam lightly to preserve that stunning green colour and subtle nutty flavour — it’s delicious with lemon butter or roasted whole!
