Santero Onions
The first downy mildew-resistant onion on the market! Santero produces heavy crops of oval to round bulbs with stunning brown-copper skins. Resistant to bolting and reliable for long-term storage — perfect for both the kitchen and the pantry.
Harvest
July to October — lift once the foliage turns yellow. Leave the whole bunch intact, dry for two days, and store for later use.
Growing Instructions
• Planting: Plant as a bunch, 25cm apart — do not separate to protect the roots.
• Position: Sunny but sheltered spot in well-drained soil.
• Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry periods.
Top Tips
• Dry Properly: Hang onions to dry in a shed or garage for the best storage.
• Spacing: Plant as a bunch; they’ll naturally spread out without disturbing roots.
• Bolting Resistant: Santero handles fluctuating temperatures well.
• Harvest Timing: Lift when foliage yellows for optimal size and flavour.
